Aico Smoke Alarm Installation | Leigh-on-Sea | Essex | SS9

Leigh Electrical Contractors recently carried out a fixed wire test for a landlord that had just purchased a 3 story house in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex. Unfortunately the property had failed the EICR and the landlord was also informed that although not part of the periodic inspection the property needed working hard wired smoke alarms.

The house had recently had the fusebox changed by another electrical company but, unfortunately for the landlord they had done a poor quality job and not completed any of the faults that should of been rectified when the board was changed. This is a common problem that we encounter far to often, As Leigh Electrical Contractors are Approved NICEIC Contractors you can be assured that all the work carried out by us meets the current IET wiring regulations.

As the property is over 3 floors there needs to be a smoke alarm on each level which are inter-linked together so that if one operates it sets the other alarms off. Although this would be the minimum L3 protection that the property needs to meet their landlords requirements Leigh Electrical Contractors advised the landlord to install an extra alarm in the kitchen.

As the boiler was also located in this area we advised the customer to install an Aico combined heat and carbon alarm which would not only pick up a fire but also a carbon monoxide leak from the boiler.

Unlike many smoke alarm installers Leigh Electrical Contractors try not to use mini trunking preferring to fish the wire from the light through the ceiling and into to smoke alarm base. To link the alarms together we used the Aico Radio Link Modules they use their own Wifi signal to link the alarms together. Using these modules cuts down on damage to the walls and ceilings as a 3 core wire is not needed to interlink them together.

Once the alarms had been installed and house coded the alarms were tested one by one with a smoke canister making sure that all the alarms around the property activate when the smoke is sprayed.

Leigh Electrical Contractors fitted the new Aico lithium I model, the lithium I batteries mean you don’t need to change the batteries for 10 years so are a great choice over the 9v batteries. These alarms are also a requirement for rental properties as they cannot be disconnected.
