Aico Smoke Alarm Installation | Southend | Essex | SS1

Aico Smoke Alarm Installation | Southend | Essex | SS1

A customer contacted Leigh Electrical Contractors as he was in the process of starting to renovate his flat to start renting it out and the council had told him that he needed the basic L3 smoke alarm system installed.

The property was in the classic 1970s purpose built flats in the center of Southend, as the flats are built from concrete the flats ceilings are battened off the ceiling then plaster boarded. This makes the installation of new Aico smoke alarm very easy as the wire can easily pushed along the void between the plasterboard and the concrete.

Although the council requirement is for just 1 smoke alarm in the hallway we recommended that the customer put a heat alarm in the kitchen as this was the most common place for a fire to start.

The customer was working to a very tight budget so wanted to install the smoke alarms with as little making good as possible, Leigh Electrical Contractors recommended Aico Radio Link Modules to link the alarms together via their on wireless signal.

The wire was fished through the ceiling and the alarms were hardwired to the lighting circuit so that the alarm is permanently connected with a battery back up so in case of a power cut the alarm would still operate.

Aico make a range of smoke alarms for all different types of fires so that they can be detected as fast, making the chance of evading the fire as high as possible. As well as smoke alarms Aico also make a range of Carbon Monoxide alarms which can be a standalone unit or linked into the fire alarm system.

Leigh Electrical Contractors took a fed from the existing bedroom lights and installed the new smoke alarms with the Aico Radio Link Modules. Once installed the alarms were tested with a smoke canister making sure that all the alarms around the property activate when the smoke is sprayed.

Leigh Electrical Contractors fitted the new Aico lithium I model, the lithium I batteries mean you don’t need to change the batteries for 10 years so are a great choice over the 9v batteries. These alarms are also a requirement for rental properties as they cannot be disconnected.

Unfortunately whilst we were at the property Leigh Electrical Contractors found various other work that needed to be completed before the property could be rented out, luckily for the customer we undertake all domestic electrical services
