Aico Smoke Alarm Installation | Thaxted | Essex | CM6

Leigh Electrical Contractors were called to a cottage that is over 400 years old in Thaxted, they needed to install a smoke alarm system so that they complied with the current fire regulations for their insurance company. The cottage had a thatched roof so smoke alarms were essential, the property had smoke alarms but they were battery only and not linked together.

Insurance companies have become more insistent that properties have adequate smoke alarm systems in place especially in thatched properties as the roof is such a big fire risk.

The insurance company wanted the property to have a minimum L3 smoke alarm system installed at the property, however the owner of the property wanted to have an L1 alarm system. This means there would be an alarm in every room linked together as they were worried about the spread of fire.

As the property was built in the 1600s the floors and layout would make it very hard to get out if there was a fire so they wanted as much protection as they could get!

The smoke alarms would be interlinked together and located on the landing and hallway as well as all the rooms a combined heat alarm and CO2 alarm is also needed in all kitchen.

Leigh Electrical Contractors have been proud members of the Aico Approved Contractor scheme for many years and have recently updated our qualifications so that we are up to date with all new fire regulations and Aico Products.

Aico alarms have been the market leaders in domestic smoke alarm products for the last 30 years saving lives since 1990. Aico are a far superior alarm as each alarm made is tested at least 4 times before they leave making them the most effective and reliable smoke alarms on the market.

Aico make a range of smoke alarms for all different types of fires so that they can be detected as fast as possible making the chance of evading the fire as high as possible. As well as smoke alarms Aico also make a range of Carbon Monoxide alarms which can be a standalone unit or linked into the fire alarm system.

Leigh Electrical Contractors are trusted by countless customers across Essex for their vast knowledge and experience of smoke alarm systems and over 20 years using the Aico range of fire alarms throughout Braintree and the wider Essex area.

Leigh Electrical Contractors advised the customer to use the Aico Radiolink modules meaning that a 3 core cable wouldn’t be needed to interlink the alarms together this saves time, money and damage to the ceilings.

Leigh Electrical Contractors fitted the new Aico lithium I model, the lithium I batteries mean you don’t need to change the batteries for 10 years so are a great choice over the 9v batteries. These alarms are also a requirement for rental properties as they cannot be disconnected.

“Disconnected lights so builder can take the ceiling down. Made me temporary lights to use whilst the work is carried out.”
